Concert : Kopjes + Cerceaux
Kopjes, which means little cups in Flemish, is a trio of chamber music, improvised and written, a liquid flowing between the sounds, dense and sometimes almost imperceptible. Stan Marris’s acordion, sometimes prepared, is orchestral and always surprising, the smoke floating over the cup; Lara Humbert’s piano is the bass and her voice, the colour of the liquid; Léa Ciechelski’s saxophone and flute are its consistency.
Cerceaux is an improvised solo of demultiplied and glitched guitar. Clear crystal melodies over layers of free, random synth-pop. A soft balance of multiple loops with different lengths, creating ever changing landscapes that sustain a spontaneous, voice-like guitar phrasing. Sometimes, with eyes closes, one looses itself in the pointillist blend navigating from an amp to another. Sometimes again, echoes from a song emerge under a rhythm-box noisy chaos. And these sonic abstractions may create fleeting emotions, soft nostalgia, like lost memories of an universal pop music, like a mirror ball that keeps turning when everybody is gone.
